I met Vaishali a little over a year ago. I was looking for a designer to make my national costume, which I would later proceed to showcase in Vienna, Austria during the Miss Earth 2015 competition. We met through the then manager for the Miss Earth Kenya franchise and formed a rare bond during the one hour meeting we had.
Vaishali was born in Kisumu, Kenya. She finished all her formal education in Nairobi and later proceeded to U.K for further studies where she worked as a mentor/counselor and a PR consultant at the University of Central England Birmingham, U.K. She showcased and won many awards in Jewellery Designing not only in UK but also in Sweden. She returned back to Nairobi in 2006.
She has had the opportunity to showcase her designs in countries such as the UK, Kenya, Sweden, Morocco, Italy, USA, Tanzania, Rwanda, Gabon among others and has been published in many books and articles. Most notably, she has showcased her designs at the Aberdeen Fashion Week – Designer representing Kenya, Aberdeen Scotland, U.K; Africa Fashion Week London, Olympia, London; : UNAOC Youth forum – Gender officer, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, BBC World Service – Cultural front-line Show, Cultural icon in Fashion and Textile Industry, UK, Nairobi Fashion Week – Designer showcase, Concord Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya among many others.
Her designs reflect a juxtaposition of contemporary and aesthetic spectrum of mix media and perspectives of African/Indian origins.
Her collection, the Colors of Life, is dedicated to Peace and Unity in Kenya and the World in general via the full white chiffon and silks.
She wanted to project the message of living life fully via the colorful expressions and spills of various bright colors from her memories of the Indian Festival of Holi which reflect her mix cultural background, hence the name Colors of Life. This collection is fully hand dyed and painted.
I find her designs to be extra unique and curve out a specific feel for Vaishali’s Collections. This particular collection is ideal for travel; at the beach, resort wear or a laid back weekend getaway.
